The Fieldbus Foundation's marketing committee for the Central & Eastern European area (FFCEE MC) is delighted with the success if its first end user event for the year - a customer seminar held on May 8th on a cruise boat on the Danube.
Starting and finishing at Budapest, Hungary, the boat cruised up the Danube river to Visegrád and back whilst 56 delegates attended an informative presentation program.
After the welcome, the day's program started with an opening speech by Marc Van Pelt, Fieldbus Foundation Vice President EMEA Operations, who updated the audience with the current market position of Foundation fieldbus and the Fieldbus Foundation's current technological developments including the Safety Instrumented Functions (FF SIF), High Speed Ethernet Remote I/O (HSE RIO), Wireless and Field Device Integration (FDI) projects. He presented the role of Foundation technology as an automation infrastructure providing process integrity, business intelligence and open scaleable integration across the process plant.
Jürgen George, member of the Fieldbus Foundation EMEA Steering Committee, explained how the Fieldbus Foundation's EMEA Steering Committee supports the current marketing activities in Hungary and how regional marketing activities within a wider Central & Eastern European region will be expanded further over the next few months.
Representing the end user/engineering contractor community, Sven Seintsch's presentation gave an insight into the application of Foundation technology into production sites and how any implementation issues such as communication errors in the software or infrastructure can be addressed. Sven is from BIS Prozesstechnik GmbH (formerly Infraserv Hoechst) and is also an active member of the NAMUR Working Group 2.6 Fieldbus.
Following a complimentary lunch, two round table discussion sessions were held in parallel during the afternoon. One session discussed the implementation of Foundation technology from an investment/project management standpoint, and the other session considered the technology from the end user/maintenance point of view. Each workshop was led by an industry expert as an external moderator who then presented the key discussion points and conclusions from the sessions to all the delegates at the end of the day. Mr István Bencze (Emerson Process Management) has recently completed the project coordination of a second plant installation, and Mr László Simon (TEVA Hungary) has been actively involved in the design, installation and commissioning of a new pharmaceutical plant in Sajóbábony, Hungary, with over 600 field devices, and is responsible for the maintenance of all plants.
Marc Van Pelt was particularly pleased with the positive feedback received from the delegates „Today's seminar was an inspired and original way to hold a customer event - the combination of market and technical presentations, the lively round table discussions and the relaxing charm of the boat cruise has been appreciated by the delegates - everyone we have spoken to welcomed the opportunity to attend". He continued, „the Fieldbus Foundation EMEA Steering Committee appreciates the efforts by the members of the regional marketing committee and looks forward to further events in the near future in this area".
