Seminar At Process Teknik 2008, Sweden, Impresses Delegates

dsc_0006The Fieldbus Foundation Swedish Marketing Committee (FFSWMC) took part in the conference program of the Process Teknik 2008 exhibition and conference at the Svenska Mässan i Göteborg, the Swedish Exhibition Centre in Gothenburg, Sweden, from 7-9 October 2008.

As a jointly sponsored initiative between the Fieldbus Foundation and Profibus, seminars were held on 8 October in a morning session from 09.00-11.30 and an afternoon session from 13.30-16.00. Free of charge to attend and aimed at an audience of process engineers, the seminars introduced the basic principles of fieldbus technology and its application with the process industry. Speakers included Lars Larsson representing Profibus, and Travis Hesketh, Steve Harrison and Mike O'Neill representing the Fieldbus Foundation, who presented at both seminar sessions.

The Fieldbus Foundation session utilised a live Foundation system unit to give the audience a practical demonstration of its technology. Multivariable fieldbus devices were added to a segment, configured and commissioned. Functions and features demonstrated through the live configuration of the system and devices included control strategies with hot backup logic in the device; control in the field; hot backup switchover on failure; mode shedding on complete probe failure; EDDL diagnostics; help screens; predictive intelligence (pH coating); management reporting of information and interoperability.

Devices from BEKA, Emerson Process Management, Endress+Hauser, Honeywell, MooreHawke, MTL, Pepperl+Fuchs, Turck and Vega were used with a host system from Emerson Process Management.

As well as being impressed by the comprehensive hands-on demonstration of Foundation technology, the 50 delegates also learned about the deliverable business benefits of the technology in terms of process integrity, business intelligence and open, scalable integration as part of a single, plant-wide solution. Feedback from attendees at the Foundation technology seminar was extremely positive and the FFSWMC is looking forward to organising several more events for end users and engineering contractors in the region over the coming months.
