Multaqa 2009 Another Successful End User Council Conference - Middle East

Multaqa09_RT cutting ribbonMultaqa09_RT and panelThe Foundation Fieldbus End User Council - Middle East (FFEUC-ME) and Fieldbus Foundation Middle East Marketing Committee (FFMEMC) are delighted with the success of Multaqa 2009, the 5th Foundation Fieldbus Middle East End User Council Conference, held at the Hotel Ramada Plaza in Doha, Qatar, from December 15-16 2009.

Rich Timoney, President and CEO - Fieldbus Foundation, led the inauguration ceremony and welcomed guests of honour, Mr. Jassim Saddiq - Assistant Engineering Manager, Qatar Petroleum, and Mr Sultan Ameen - Head of Maintenance, SEEF, and 170 participants to the conference with an update on the activities and developments of the Fieldbus Foundation.

Multaqa09_RT presentingMultaqa09_audience at tableEnd users, system integrators and engineers from across the Middle East region participated in an extensive two day program of presentations by end users and implementers of Foundation technology, as well as Foundation technical presentations by worldwide experts. Project implementation experiences were shared by ADMA-OPCO, Saudi Aramco, and Qatar Vinyl Company, and technical updates addressed topics including Foundation Fieldbus for Safety Instrumented Functions (FFSIF), Foundation fieldbus in hazardous areas, wireless systems, CAPEX and OPEX savings, asset management, commissioning experiences, maintenance and interoperability issues and diagnostics.

In addition to the presentation program, a table top exhibition featuring products and devices from the event sponsors offered the opportunity for attendees to discuss applications with a number of Fieldbus Foundation member companies. Events sponsors include ABB, Beka Associates, Emerson Process Management, Endress+Hauser, Hirschmann, Honeywell, Invensys, Krohne, Pepperl+Fuchs, Magnetrol, Metso, MooreHawke, MTL, Rockwell Automation, R.Stahl, Softing, Turck and Yokogawa.

A new FFEUC-ME committee was established in June 2009 includes chairman - Majid Al Braik, ADMA OPCO; vice-chairman -Nilangshu Dey, Qatar petroleum; treasurer - Fahad Al Hamad, Saudi Aramco; secretary - Indira Molina, ADCO, and communications officer - Djamel Bari, ADMA OPCO. It is committed to three key objectives:

  • Educate and assist end users across the Middle East in Foundation technology and its benefits
  • Provide a forum to exchange information among Middle East end users
  • Assist the FFMEMC in establishing Foundation fieldbus training centres across the Middle East region to benefit its end users.

Chairman Majid Al Braik was pleased with the feedback from Multaqa 2009 attendees and commented, "The FFEUC-ME includes many end users including representatives of the key oil & gas and petroleum companies throughout the Middle East region. End user forums such as Multaqa are critical events that allow a multi-directional flow of information between the developers of Foundation technology, implementers and prospective implementers of the technology, and the suppliers of equipment and systems that facilitate the implementation of the technology."
