Over 365 Delegates Attend End User Events 2009

Oct09_al_khobar__audienceThe Fieldbus Foundation Middle East Marketing Committee (FFMEMC) is delighted with the success of its recent series of end user seminars held across the region from October 25-28th 2009. Over the four days, the FFMEMC welcomed over 365 delegates including end users, engineering consultants, system integrators and ISA members to its events.

The events were held at conveniently located hotel venues in Al Khobar, Saudi Arabia; Doha, Qatar; Muscat, Oman; and Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. Following the successful formula from previous events that fits well into an engineer's busy day, the seminars started at 5.00pm and followed a focused agenda that concluded with a complimentary dinner.

Oct09_muscat_salim_al-hinaiThe FFMEMC enjoys a close working relationship with ISA groups across the region and appreciated the support offered by the ISA Saudi Arabia Chapter and ISA Qatar Chapter in hosting and promoting the events in Al Khobar and Doha. President - ISA Saudi Arabia Chapter, Luay Al Awami, reported an unprecedented attendance of local ISA members at the Al Khobar meeting with over 120 delegates present at the event. He attributed this to the importance of Foundation fieldbus to the instrumentation and control community in Saudi Arabia and the high level of interest in the technology, its role in asset optimisation, and active projects. In Qatar, the event attracted an audience of over 80 attendees and was the first of its kind that combined both technology presentations with end user applications. President - ISA Qatar Chapter, Nilangshu Dey, highlighted the need for end users in Qatar to benefit from more events of this kind.

Oct09_doha_sathar_eu_presentationWith the theme "Foundation Fieldbus - Technology Update Seminar", the agenda included presentations to update attendees on the technical developments and progress of Foundation fieldbus and the benefits it offers in terms of process integrity, business intelligence and open scaleable integration. In addition to focused presentations on Foundation fieldbus for Safety Instrumented Functions (FFSIF) and the benefits of OPEX savings and asset optimisation through the implementation of Foundation fieldbus, key members of the Fieldbus Foundation End User Council - Middle East (FFEUC-ME) shared their own applications experiences from both an end user and engineering contractor perspective and contributed to the valuable Q&A discussion sessions. Of particular interest was the account given in Doha by Sathar Vadhooth, Qatar Petroleum, about the implementation of Foundation fieldbus in a QP offshore production facility and Hamad S. Balhareth's account of FFSIF and the demonstration at Saudi Aramco's Dhahran site.

End user events coordinated by the FFMEMC and FFEUC-ME are excellent forums for the sharing of knowledge, experiences and requirements. In particular, the Q&A discussion sessions and close-out sessions provide unique opportunities for delegates to give feedback. Close-out discussions at the Muscat event, led by Salim Al Hinai, Petroleum Development Oman, and the Abu Dhabi event, led by Majid Al Braik, ADMA OPCO, were particularly valuable. The FFMEMC and FFEUC-ME will do all they can to meet the requirements of the Middle East end user and acknowledge the need to continue to hold end user events across the region and the need for local certified training facilities for end users.

Oct09_doha-audienceMajid Al Braik, ADMA OPCO, and chairman of the FFEUC-ME commented, "The events organised by the marketing committee and end user council are so well supported because end users in the Middle East have a great interest in implementing Foundation technology in their projects due to the features it offers including control in the field, interoperability and ease of integration with other fieldbus technologies. The resultant improvements to plant performance and cost effective design are critical for future competitiveness. Prospective end users are therefore keen to understand how they too can implement these benefits".

Sponsors of the events included: ABB. Emerson Process Management, Endress+Hauser, Honeywell, Invensys, Pepperl+Fuchs, Metso, MooreHawke, MTL, R.Stahl, Turck and Yokogawa.
