AUSTIN, Texas, February 17, 2010 — The Fieldbus Foundation today announced that B.R. Mehta, senior vice president, Reliance Industries Ltd., will deliver the keynote address at its 2010 General Assembly, to be held March 24-25 at the Houstonian Hotel in Houston, TX. Mehta will describe his company’s installation of Foundation fieldbus at the new Jamnagar Refinery & Petrochemicals complex in Jamnagar, Western India.

B.R. Mehta has more than 36 years of experience in the refinery and petrochemicals industries. He has worked on engineering projects in the field of control systems and instrumentation for the Patalganga, Hazira, and Jamnagar Refinery & Petrochemicals complexes during his 24 years with the Reliance Group. Before joining Reliance, Mehta spent two years at the Agro Chemical & Food Co. in Kenya as chief instrumentation engineer, and 11 years at Indian Petrochemicals Ltd. in Vadodara, India, as an instrumentation engineer.

Fieldbus Foundation President and CEO Rich Timoney commented, “B.R. Mehta is a leading worldwide figure within the Foundation fieldbus community. He has been a strong supporter our technology, and will share many valuable insights during his keynote address. When Reliance Industries decided to build the new Jamnagar refinery, its goal was to deploy a world-class control system utilizing the latest technology to achieve operational excellence. During his presentation, Mr. Mehta will describe how Foundation fieldbus met this key objective.”Timoney added, “Anyone involved in the planning or implementation of a fieldbus-based control solution should make plans to attend our annual gathering, which is strategically located in Houston, TX, for 2010.”

B.R. Mehta serves as chairman of the Fieldbus Foundation End User Council—India and is a member of the foundation’s End User Advisory Council (EUAC) worldwide. He has been chairman of the Instrumentation Experts Club in Mumbai, India, for the past seven years, and sits on the Board of Governors for Automation 2010—India’s largest industrial automation exhibition and conference planned for September 21-24 in Mumbai.

Recognized as one of the world’s most extensive refinery installations of Foundation technology to date, the Jamnagar Refinery & Petrochemicals complex is also India's largest private sector enterprise, with businesses in the energy and materials value chain. The Jamnagar facility, with a capacity of 580,000 barrels-per-day (bpd), together with Reliance’s neighboring 660,000 bpd existing refinery, form the world’s largest refining complex with a 1.24 million bpd capacity.
