Fieldbus Foundation - Netherlands (FFN) hosted a ‘Fieldbus Live' end user seminar at the RDM Campus, Rotterdam, on Thursday 11 November.
Rob van der Zwan, chairman FFN, opened the seminar with an announcement that the Dutch marketing committee's responsibilities would be expanded to include Belgium and Luxembourg and a new Fieldbus Foundation Benelux Marketing Committee would be established as FF Benelux.
A ‘Training Teaser' session generated much interest from the participants. Ton Knegt and Bindert Douma from STC Group's Brielle training centre gave a short introduction to its Fieldbus Foundation technical training courses using one of the three newly assembled demonstration units developed for use by the Fieldbus Foundation EMEA Steering Committee and its regional marketing committees. Each demonstration unit features a host system from either Emerson Process Management, Endress+Hauser or Honeywell, with multiple devices and physical layer combinations from several Fieldbus Foundation member companies. Peter Overgaauw, Honeywell, guided delegates through a practical demonstration of Foundation technology and its ease of use.
End users Paul Bithray - Shin-Etsu, John van Leeuwen - Spie Controlec and Lex Boekel - Wintershall, shared their applications experiences of Foundation technology within their own plants. Question & answer sessions followed each presentation and offered a unique opportunity for attendees to ask questions and discuss issues in an open forum.
During the coffee breaks and buffet at the close of the event, attendees were able to continue their discussions with representatives of the sponsoring companies at the table top displays of Foundation fieldbus products and services.
A very successful seminar!
The next end user seminar in the Benelux region will take place on May 19th 2011 at the Acta vzw training centre, Kalmthout, Antwerp, Belgium.
