Successful Seminar Series - May 2010
The Fieldbus Foundation Southern Africa Marketing Committee (FFSAMC) is pleased with the success of its series of end user seminars held in Johannesburg and Cape Town in May 2010.
Seminars were held at the Bryanston Country Club, Johannesburg on May 10 & 11, followed by a third seminar held at Casia@Nitida Wine Estate, Durbanville, Cape Town, on May 13.
The one-day course provided delegates with a good understanding of Foundation fieldbus technology including the economic justifications for selecting digital communications technology in their facility. The concepts were illustrated with best practices from greenfield facilities around the world and the associated life cycle impact of Foundation technology on engineering (including documentation and workflow) start-up & commissioning, and operational excellence & asset management.
Ian Verhappen, an internationally acknowledged expert in Foundation technology, presented a comprehensive program of presentations addressing the following topics:
- Understanding the physical layer
- Methods for powering the bus and Foundation communications (macro cycles, function blocks)
- Basic elements of segment design
